The Caterpillars of this moth are pale brown with a dark brown head. The caterpillars are a world-wide pest on stored nuts.

The adult moths of this species are dimorphic. The females have grey-brown forewings, each with a large dark spot near the middle. The males have speckled pale grey forewings, each with a large pale patch in the middle containing some orange-brown markings and a black spot. The wingspan is about 2 cms.
